Fans of this game's highly fluid traversal can rejoice to discover that an innovative traversal feature will be introduced when the Amped season launches on Nov. 4. Introducing Mantle Boosting Named "Momentum Boosting" by the developers, this feature gives players a burst of propulsion when scaling obstacles. According to key developer Eric Canavese, Mantle Boosting has unofficially been a feature of the game for quite a while, usually referred to as "ledge boosting." However it's no easy feat for the average player, and typically employed by pro gamers in competitive play or esports competitions. In this update, Respawn simplifies the process for everyone to successfully perform these tricky speed-boosts. "Mantle Boosts have been in the game for some time, but executing it isn't easy to pull off and a player might not realize it's possible without outside knowledge," Canavese explains. "Now including a Mantle Boost indicator so players can clearly identify the timing to trigger the fast-paced traversal skill, opening up the feature and adding fresh strategies to play for a much wider base." Why Make It Accessible Why make a once niche movement quirk available to all players? Lead Legend designer Josh Mohan says the team wants gamers to experience empowerment — even those who are new. "Our community performs advanced techniques like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we examined at our competition, observed what our players execute, and we said, 'What if we extend some of this power to a broader audience?'" the designer explains. "Since right now, some of these techniques are kind of janky to access — it requires to remap your keybinds and execute within one-frame windows. So we said, 'What if we make a more official version?'" The Amped Update Movement Focus Mobility is largely the central theme in Season 27, with Legends Horizon, Rampart, and the aerial combatant receiving enhancements to maintain them in motion. Recovery time on Horizon's Gravity Lift is shorter, and the Gravity Lift will propel users into the air much quicker than before. Her defensive walls now include a roof and the ability to grant speed boosts to allies in range. But the spotlight is on the high-flying Valkyrie receiving significant improvements this season, with multiple tweaks implemented to make her more potent, faster, and more lethal. "In my opinion many agree that Valkyrie's time has arrived," says Legend designer Ian Holstead. "Certainly that she's been dominant in the past, but due to the addition of other characters, mobility perks, and redeployment tools, it felt like she's not very relevant in current the game. This presented an ideal chance for us to reexamine multiple elements [of her kit] and sort of restore her to former prominence." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To reclaim Valkyrie's relevance in current strategies, Holstead notes the team evaluated all her skills and introduced some powerful changes. Her jetpack have been upgraded, increasing her speed while airborne, and the jets themselves regenerates three times faster, allowing the player to remain longer in the air. Now she won't take damage from her ultimate ability, which has also been upgraded to tag enemies who take damage from the missiles. Her squad redeploy skill — which lifts teammates skyward for repositioning or escape — now takes much less time to fire up. Additionally, she gains recently added perk choices that players can choose to conserve resources, expand the spread of her Missile Swarm, or further speed up her ultimate activation. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills the pilot experience," he says. Map Changes Additionally, the only floating arena, this location, receives a movement-friendly facelift, with major changes that opens up bottlenecks and makes claiming the high ground a bit less daunting. The developers says Apex Legends this update focuses on providing gamers the tools required to compete in matches. "Really, we examined the game's core identity as a movement shooter," explains principal designer Josh Mohan. The battle royale the Amped season releases Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
